Integrating Music Activities with Core Curriculum Studies
Topics may include, but are not limited to:
Incorporating children’s literature into music concept learning activities by enhancing stories, poems, and songs with movement, instruments, or various sound effects
Zipper-songs: creating new verses for standard folk song melodies to correlate with classroom objectives in social studies, science, and math
The Science of Sound: exploring tone color and vibration; creating musical experiences by using “found sounds” (the sounds of nature and natural objects)
History comes alive! The role of music in major historical events
This Playful-shop is specifically geared toward the needs of elementary-level music teachers who want to integrate their curriculum with their academic colleagues’ classroom units of study. It is an active session of hands-on experiences with materials and ideas that show how to use the music concepts of melody, rhythm, harmony, tone color, form, and expression to support classroom objectives in reading/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.
