Integrating Music Activities with Core Curriculum Studies


Topics may include, but are not limited to:

  1. BulletIncorporating children’s literature into music concept learning activities by enhancing stories, poems, and songs with movement, instruments, or various sound effects

  2. BulletZipper-songs:  creating new verses for  standard folk song melodies to correlate with classroom objectives in social studies, science, and math

  3. BulletThe Science of Sound: exploring tone color and vibration; creating musical experiences by using “found sounds” (the sounds of nature and natural objects)

  4. BulletHistory comes alive!  The role of music in major historical events

This Playful-shop is specifically geared toward the needs of elementary-level music teachers who want to integrate their curriculum with their academic colleagues’ classroom units of study.  It is an active session of hands-on experiences with materials and ideas that show how to use the music concepts of melody, rhythm, harmony, tone color, form, and expression to support classroom objectives in reading/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.
