Cooperative Learning Activities

Engaging All Students Equally in Activities
Students love the opportunity to talk to each other, so why not channel that energy into learning activities? Academic classrooms use this method of engagement on a regular basis to give their students opportunities for success in learning and leadership; this session is designed for elementary-level music teachers who seek the same depth of understanding and independence for the students in their classrooms.
Cooperative Learning Activities encourage students to interact in various ways, either one-on-one or in small groups, where no one is excluded and each child is responsible for the success of the activity.
Participants in this Playful-shop will learn many different strategies for student engagement in music concept understanding.
Topics may include, but are not limited to, activities for:
Rhythmic and Melodic independence in reading and performing patterns
Composition
Soprano Recorder
Interpreting Music Notation (tempo and dynamic markings, musical “road maps,” letter-names of treble-staff notes, etc.)
Reinforcing student understanding of a variety of music concepts, from instrument recognition to interval identification
